The ideal advocate

Many children talk of the need to have someone to speak up on their behalf about issues that affect them. It can be  help with personal issues, contact with family when in care, education or getting back to school, placements moves, bullying, anger management or complaints.

Some of the people who speak on your behalf can be independent advocates. Often children get other adults to give them support to talk on their behalf such as: teacher, key worker a member of the family or social worker.

The ideal advocate :

“ Advocates need to be good listeners and speakers, understand children’s issues and be reliable.”

Children’s views on Advocacy , A report by Children’s Rights Director for England.
