Posted on 29 March 2016

What are nightmares?

Nightmares are dreams that can be disturbing and often jolt you awake. They make you feel anxious, stressed or frightened.

What can cause nightmares?

When people are awake they  can forget upsetting thoughts and memories. But you loose that control hwne you are asleep. Your dreams can take you to thoughts you have been trying to avoid during the day.

What can help to have a good sleep?

Some of the things that can help to stop nightmares

  • cut down on energy drinks in the evenings ( coffee, tea, Coke) and cut down on alcohol
  • regular bedtime
  • try to walk in the park and spend time outdoors
  • make sure your room is quiet and dark

Talking therapies

if you feel you are getting nightmares a lot ( more than once a week) you may want to talk about it to your carer or a social worker or a GP. Counsellign services will help you work through the memories and feelings that are causing nightmares.
