The Convention of the Rights of the Child - 25 years on

In 2014 worldwide celebrations have been taking place to mark the 25 years of the Convention of the Rights of the Child.

The Convention changed the way children are viewed and treated. Through the adoption of the Convention, the whole world made a commitment to all children.

The United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child sets our promises to children:

  • Every child has the right to a safe and healthy life
  • Every child has the right to education
  • Every child has the right to identity
  • Every child has the right to be protected from harmful labour
  • Every child has the right to family
  • Every child has the right to special protection during wartime
  • Every child has the right to express their own opinion and have access to information
  • Every child has the right to be protected from abuse
  • Every child with disability has the right to special care
  • Every child has the righ to be protected from discrimination
