Listen up!

Posted on 22 July 2013

The Camden Children in Care Council was invited to present their work at the LISTEN UP!national event held at HUB Westminster on the 11th July 2013.

LISTEN UP! – organised by The Who Cares? Trust, provides an opportunity for young people to give their ideas about how to improve the care system in order to influence people who make decisions about their lives.

The event was attended by children in care, MPs, politicians, professionals and representatives from local authorities from across England and Wales.

Edward Timpson MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Children and Families and Dr Maggie Atkinson, Children’s Rights Commissioner for England  spoke at the event.

Liya, Allie and Nikki represented the Camden Children in Care Council and presented their work on the Back Chat online website and the Young Inspectors programme. Young people have received expressions of positive interest in the projects and a very positive feedback.

Other examples of projects presented at the event by local authorities and charities included a mentoring scheme, DVDs made for young people in care in their areas and a mobile phone app.

“I had amazing time! It was a good opportunity to exchange ideas with other boroughs and to show what we do” - Liya
